Benefit concerts produced with local musicians to support local charities. I dropped out of this business after two, an unrelated project picked up in 2001, please visit Proof through the night, a similar project organized by Scott Albert Johnson.
Crescendo Presents a "Concert That Cares" about the SADVC
Laurel, Maryland - Crescendo announces the first in a series of "Concerts That Care" events produced with local talent to benefit local service groups and charities
The concert, scheduled for November 9th, 1996 at Levering Hall on the campus of Johns Hopkins University features the talents of more than 10 bands and artists from the Baltimore-Washington region. The lineup includes Love Riot, the Cathy Jean Band, Patrick Marton, Stryker's Posse, Lust, Rob Nold, Oella Blue amd the Mobtown Dukes. Doors open at 3pm. Cost is $10.
Proceeds from the concert benefit the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Cneters (SADVC) of Baltimore. This group provides services for victims of rape, incest, child sexual assault and domestic violence. For more information about SADVC, call ###.###.####. Representatives from SADVC will be available at the event.
Crescendo invites local companies to sponsor events in the series to help defray production expenses. Interested persons should contact Crescendo or arrange to make tax-deductable donations directly to SADVC in coordination with this event.
The Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center of Baltimore later became Second Step and is now (apparently), Turnaround, Inc.
The JHU Newsletter had a blurb that made it to the web.
Greg Khin's appearance was a complete accident, prompted by the JHU staff scheduling both events in the same space at the same time. Greg didn't quite get into the spirit of the "charity event," demanding free admission for his "people" and generally acting like a rock star.
The second concert featured Sonia of disappear fear and Helen Saunders at the
Black Cat in Washington, DC.
This event brought together the
DC Rape Crisis Center,
Men's Rape Prevention Project,
and local support to benefit the DC Rape Crisis Center. Text from the final press release:

I lost my shirt on this (promotion for the band didn't quite come together as expected), but, there was some press coverage, all expenses were covered, and the Crisis Center made a few hundred dollars in donations and matching funds.
